She may not have won Popstars, but that hasn't stopped Danielle Stearman planning her own assault on to the charts!
What have you done since the show ended?
When I got home, I was a bit lost cos I didn't have a schedule. You go from having someone at your door at 5.30am, then it stops and it's like, "Nobody wants me anymore!" I did a lot of charity stuff and I went away with a few friends for a while. I've been taking it easy.
What went through your mind just before the final decision?
I was hoping Scott would win. I watched him grow and thought he was such a great entertainer. In the back of my mind, I knew it wasn't the end for me, and look, I got my single out anyway.
You must have been disappointed as well!
I wasn't disappointed until a couple of days later. When Scotty went to do his video, it was like, "I wish I could go!" It didn't really hit me until then, and then I thought, "Danielle, get over it." How many knock-backs do you need until you make it?
Did you know you'd get to release your single anyway?
There was no talk of release until about a month after I got home, and there was a lot of back and forth because I wanted to know if I just just do my own thing.
Doesn't it defeat the purpose of people voting for a winner to have your single come out?
It's a weird concept, but there's only one Popstar. And look at Scandal'Us and Selwyn. People remember Selwyn from the show but he's made it on his own.
How in control do you feel of what's going on?
You have to have people run around and organise things cos it's such a big job. I've always had a say in what goes on, but I don't think many new artists have much control. If I had complete control, I'd probably get it all wrong.
Do you feel like Tell me if you like it is your song or a song you happen to be singing?
I feel like I've adopted it - I would have been really disappointed if someone else had released it. Even though I didn't write the song, it's been developed while I was here. I've played it to my friends and they all think it sounds like me.
What's the update on the Scott and Danielle Saga?
Aaah, please! I had no idea it was such a big rumour! Scotty and I are friends! The thing with it is, I'm very tomboyish, and I got on very well with James and Scott. I think that's why we clicked. Also, he lives in Sydney and I live in Melbourne - it wouldn't work anyway.
Scott's gone public about his daughter. What's your secret?
Ummm... (Thinks for ages) I'm not that exciting! (Laughs) People have said I'm not a real blonde, but if you knew me, you'd know my hair colour is real. I haven't had anything come out!
What does the future hold?
If the single does well, then the idea of doing an album would come into play. That was my biggest hesitation - I didn't want to be a one hit wonder. I want longevity.
